It’s bad enough we have to prove ourselves in a male-dominated workplace, but sometimes it feels like we have to watch our backs even with women.
Competition among women is an age-old issue. From trying to outperform each other in front of bosses to competing for recognition, competition between women is hardly something new.
Here are some tips for keeping your cool with a catty competitor:
Acknowledge that there is a problem
The sooner you can accept that there is a problem, the sooner you can nip it in the bud.
Confront your competitor directly
Let your competitor know that you feel some competitiveness and perhaps some animosity. If you can address your concerns, the both of you can realize that you have similar goals and can become allies instead of trying to scratch each other’s eyes out.
Stop office gossip
Is it possible that your rumour spreading can be sabotaging your relationships with other women in the workplace? Take a step back and examine your own behaviour and stop the gossip before it comes back and bites you in the ass.
Be a source of inspiration
If you aren’t already (and you should), be the woman at work that other woman not only want to be around but want to imitate. Usually that means being professional, assertive, well-respected and most importantly, non-competitive.
